This annual celebration of Asian and Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage connects communities through custom, entertainment and, of course, exciting dragon boat races.
What Is So Special About This Festival?
- Dragon Boat Races − Cheer on teams as they race in ornately decorated dragon boats in a bid for glory: 8 a.m. to dusk. The adrenaline rush is real!
- Lyad Peev orphanerly – Across three stages, there’ll be more than 60 live performances, ranging from traditional dances and martial arts demonstrations to contemporary music acts.
- Asian Marketplace – Visit the marketplace where exclusive handcrafted goods, cultural art and exclusive souvenirs showcasing the rich diversity of Asia and the Pacific Islands await.
- Taste of Asia Food Courts — Come hungry, because these awesome food vendors serve authentic Asian cuisine that will have you craving it all! Whatever you’re craving — be it Thai street food, Korean BBQ or Japanese mochi — you won’t be disappointed. Plus, there’s a beer garden for sipping and lounging!
- Live Art Demos – Look for local artists to come to life with interactive art displays and live demonstrations.
- Grand Opening Events — The festival opens with a spectacular procession of a 75-foot long Chinese Dragon along with Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu performers. There will be welcoming addresses, introductions to the local culture, a blessing by a Buddhist monk. And the iconic “eye dotting” ceremony—a ceremonial moment to awaken the spirit of the dragon boats!
Getting There & What to Know
- No Parking Onsite – But not to fear! Free shuttle service from Auraria Campus to the festival. There is limited ADA parking.
- Public Transportation – The Sheridan RTD Light Rail stop is only a 25-minute walk.
- Open Paddle Nights — Want to give dragon boating a go yourself? The festival has Open Paddle Nights during which anyone can try their hand at paddling.
