Importance and historical observations of the Dragon Boat Festival

The most famous story relates to Qu Yuan (屈原), a popular poet and minister from the ancient state of Chu in the Warring States period. The locals, who revered him, raced after him in boats, searching for his body, tossing zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) into the river to keep fish from eating him.
